Private Health Insurance Rebates for Counselling

Many private health insurance policies in Australia provide partial rebates for counselling sessions. Rebates depend on your individual policy and level of cover, so it’s important to check directly with your insurer.

Health funds accepted for counselling rebates at Inner Bliss Wellbeing

Counselling rebates are available for clients with cover through the following health funds:

• Medibank
• ahm

• Australian Regional Health Group (ARHG), which includes:
– Police Health Fund
– Emergency Services Health
– Phoenix Health
– St Lukes Health
– GMHBA
– see-u by HBF (telehealth only)
– Teachers Union Health
– AIA
– Doctors Health Fund
– Westfund

Rebates are subject to your individual policy terms and conditions.

Am I eligible for a rebate?

You may be able to claim a rebate if:

• You hold extras cover that includes counselling
• Your insurer covers sessions with a registered counsellor
• Your policy limits and waiting periods have been met

Each insurer sets their own rebate amounts and annual limits.

How claiming works

Counselling sessions are paid in full at the time of your appointment.
After your session, you will receive a detailed invoice which you can submit to your health fund for reimbursement.

Invoices include all information typically required by health insurers, such as:

• Provider name and registration details
• Practice details
• Date of service
• Session type and duration
• Item code where applicable

Your health fund will then assess your claim and reimburse you according to your policy.

How much will I get back?

Rebate amounts vary depending on:

• Your insurer
• Your level of extras cover
• Your annual counselling limit

Most funds provide a partial rebate, not full coverage.

Private health rebates apply to counselling services only.
They do not apply to coaching, workshops, courses, or educational programs.
